Fabulous Fall

Goodbye and Thank you:

It has been a wonderful October for me. You have allowed me to visit many of my favorite fall sights and share them with you. I really appreciate your visit to my humble blog and will try to come up with posts of interest in the future. Please leave comments or suggestions. They are helpful to me and truly welcome. See you in November!

Novi to Frankenmuth, Michigan.

A fun Sunday drive:

Today we did our annual run to Frankenmuth Michigan. It is about 90 miles northwest of Detroit and quite a sight to see. At Bonner’s, we find Christmas celebrated 361 days a year.

They specialize in all sorts of Christmas decorations and themed items.

The store is so large, that once inside, you will get lost on your first excursion there. After Bonner’s it’s the custom to eat at one of the chicken restaurants in town. Bavarian Village and Zehnders are on main street, facing each other. They have been competitors, both selling chicken dinners for the better part of the last century! It’s Sunday chicken dinner, served family style, and I will tell you, the table gets quite crowded with salads, rolls, side dishes, and of course, chicken.

Well, that is it for this year’s chicken run!

Fall in Novi, Michigan.

A last look at fall:

With the recent news of snow in the northwest, and the drop in temperature here, it appears time to say goodbye to fall. It was beautiful while it lasted, but the leaves are losing their color and only few will remain after the weekend.

Baked Pumpkin

A Pumpkin’s Future:

It’s almost October 31st, and time to make plans for our jack-o‘-lanterns. What will you be doing, carving, toasting (the seeds), or cooking. Will you be displaying them with or without a toothy grin? We decided to not use any real pumpkins for decorating this year. No carvings on our porch. Instead they will be nestled in our oven with bubbling custard inside of them. Mmm, I can smell the cinnamon now!

BAKED WHOLE PUMPKIN

1 five to seven pound pumpkin

6 eggs

2 cups whipping cream

½ cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon molasses

½ teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ginger

2 tablespoons butter

Cut the lid off the pumpkin and remove seeds as you would for a jack-o’-lantern.

Mix together all BUT the butter

.

Fill pumpkin with the mixture; then top with the butter.

Cover the pumpkin with its lid and place in a baking pan.

Back at 350 degrees F for 1 to 1 ½ hours or until the mixture has set like a custard.

Dish it up at the table, right out of the pumpkin. Scrape some of the meat from the pumpkin with each serving.

Bon Appetit

Franklin, Michigan

R-U Ready?

It is countdown time, and almost Halloween. Are you all holiday-ready at your house? The anticipation is exciting, but it’s the actual night of terror, fright & fun that I look forward to. We don’t get many ghouls and goblins in our neighborhood; however, I dress and prepare for their visits year after year. What do you do? Anything out of the norm? Here’s a peek at the town of Franklin, Michigan all gussied up for the Halloween holiday.
