Cake Contest

Patisserie Parmentier Cake Contest:

My wonderful boss took his family on a spectacular vacation to Aruba. He left knowing that the bakery would be safe thanks to Kathie & Crew! He assigned a task before he left. It was designed to keep the creativity flowing. The bakers were challenged to compete in decorating a cake. The contest rule was to utilize Pink, Orange & Dots. In addition, it must be pleasing to the eye. What a challenge. Keep in mind this is summer. I wanted to rub elbows with the talented staff and maybe learn a trick or two, so I finagled my way into the competition and John allowed me to participate. I was in the company of some very good bakers. Well, it was a fun project while the parents…, I mean Boss was away. Take a peekster and pick your favorite. I will report the results next week. Guess which was you-know-who's...

Pink Roses

My Yard Sale Find:

This is my twenty dollar special find. It reminded me of my mother’s China in her Cabinet. Thrifting and shopping is fun and helps scape my home at a savings. However, at times, great values are seen, and they’re especially nice when they touch on a sentimental note. I know it has been very warm across the country, but I really had to get out in spite of it. I hope next week you are just as successful.

Good Food

Good Food:

I’ve a little secret to share with all of you. There’s a small town just northwest of Detroit called Holly, and that’s where you will find a wonderful Carry-out restaurant operated by my old friends, Dave & Cyndi. I’ve known the couple for over twenty years. We first met when they worked in the greater Detroit area’s fine-dining industry.

While they do serve sandwiches and simple carry-out meals, this is different. I mean, when they have a side of carrots, they‘re sautéed in butter and Gran Marnier, really! It’s simply comfort foods, prepared with fresh, real ingredients, for carry-out only. Most surprising, offered at carry-out prices! The menu includes Roast Beef, Pulled Pork, Roasted Chicken, along with salads, sides, and the most remarkable, pies and brownies. There are also some interesting items on the menu like crawfish pie, and Dave has a surprise special every Saturday. All breads, brownies & cakes are baked on premises and you can pick-up fruits and vegetables as they have only the freshest produce stocked for sale.

All in all, it makes for a great road trip. So why heat up your kitchen when you can have Dave and Cyndi cook for you? Enjoy the photos!
